Alys Sayre Lorraine (born 1885)[1] is an opera singer. Regularly appeared at the famous Covent Garden Opera House in London. She was married to the music critic Richard Northcott.[2]

Professional career

Lorraine came to Europe in 1902. She studied singing with the Italian tenor Francesco Tamagno and in Paris with Madame Mathilde Marchesi and Jean de Reszke. In 1908 she debuted in the Netherlands as 'Marguerite' in Faust.[3] The soprano stood out because of her extraordinary voice volume.[4] Lorraine was noted as being a favorite singer of Kind Edward.[5]

She was widow of her first husband and married in 1922 with music critic Richard Northcott. They lived together in London.[6]

Death

Lorraine passed away on September 13, 1956.[7]
