Nasir Ahmad Yartey (born 21 November 1976) is a Ghanaian Public Relations Practitioner and a Development Communications Consultant. He is currently the Head of Public Affairs[1] at the Ministry of Roads and Highways where he is leading the media relations and organizational communications efforts which is defining a new public affairs outlook at the Ministry, given his wealth of experience in that space. He has twelve (12) years of experience in public relations and advocacy, strategic media relations, communications, planning and below-the-line engagements with relevant stakeholders. Nasir Ahmad Yartey is an Associate of the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (IPR) [2] and also has a professional affiliation with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).

Nasir is a graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), where he attained a BA in Communications Studies in Public Relations and a Masters in Development Communications in 2013 and 2017 respectively. He also attained a Diploma in Communication Studies at the Africa University College of Communications (AUCC). He is an Associate of the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (IPR) and also a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).

Early life and education

He hails from ..... in the ...... of Ghana..... Prior to joining the civil service in Ghana, he was a former student of Africa University College of Communications (AUCC) where he played a pioneering role in founding the Journalists for Human Rights, Ghana (JHR) in 2007. He is a graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), where he attained a BA in Communications Studies in Public Relations and a Masters in Development Communications in 2013 and 2017 respectively. He is an Associate of the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (IPR)[2] and also has a professional affiliation with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).

Career

Prior to his new role at the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Nasir Ahmad Yartey was Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) from 2017 to 2021. During his appointment, he succeeded in providing data-driven strategic communications support to the sector Minister, Chief Director and Ministry directorates responsible for how to effectively roll out ministerial leadership, human resource development, management, vision, products and services. Mr. Yartey started his career in the public relations space as an entry-level Assistant Media Liaison Co-ordinator at the Information Service Department from 2009 to 2011. He then proceeded to the Ministry of Trade & Industry, where he worked assiduously as an Assistant Public Relations Officer, acting as official spokesperson, communication focal point, and Head of Client Service from 2011-2017 before joining MESTI as Head of Public Relations the same year.


Before Nasir fully joined the public relations fraternity in 2009, he worked as a managing editor for the Guidance Newspaper from 2006 2009. He also acted as a budding reporter of special business reporting prior to the 2008 General Elections and also as a court correspondent specially assigned to report on the famous Tagor Case.


Even further, Nasir Ahmad Yartey worked with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Liberia as a Personal Assistant to the Head of Mission, Liberia, and was part of a five-member team posted to re-establish the Liberian Mission after the Civil War. He represented the Amir (head) at official functions, wrote and delivered speeches, was in charge of three (3) counties, conducted outreach programs throughout Liberia, and later worked as an Islamic Religious Teacher in Ahmadiyya Mission Schools from 1998 to 2003. Mr. Yartey established three (3) mission schools and six (6) mission houses in Liberia before proceeding to Ghana to work as an Administrator at the Nima Circuit Court from 2004 to 2009.

Personal life

Nasir Ahmad Yartey is married to a supportive wife with whom he has four (4) children. He is a Muslim and enjoys reading inspirational books, working out, and inspiring people.
