Love Your Melon

[edit]

a non-profit organization that raises funds for children with pediatric cancer in America. It was founded on October 22, 2012 by two students in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul in St. Paul, Minnesota. It The organization was created by Zach Quinn and Brian Keller. Zach said:

"Brian and I founded Love Your Melon while we were sophomores in college. We wanted to help those in need so we created 400 hats and kicked off our buy one, give on program. On December 19th, 2012, we went on our first hospital donation event. Seeing the smiles we created by giving the kids Love Your Melon hats and spending time with them was an incredible experience. We were inspired to keep making our hats."[1]

Mission

[edit]

Love Your Melon is a non-profit apparel brand whose mission is to give a hat to every child battling cancer in America as well as to support other non-profit organizations who lead the fight against pediatric cancer.

Accomplishments

[edit]
  • Donated over 75,000 hats to date
  • Donated 1.1 million dollars to pediatric cancer research and to immediate families to date[2]
  • Starting on April 8, 2016-- 50% of net proceeds from the sale of products is immediately donated to non-profit pediatric cancer research partners; two children’s cancer charities, the Pinky Swear Foundation[3] and CureSearch.[4]
  • Spread to approximately 736 college campuses and acquired about 11,000 student crew members[5]

Crew Members

[edit]

Crew Members are all over America's college campuses and serve as ambassadors to the brand. To start a crew on a campus, you first have to write to the company expressing why you want a crew at your campus and then they will get back to you on further steps. Whence your crew is established you can begin raising funds through advertising when products are 'dropped'. When guests are purchasing their products online, they simply select your college from a drop down list. This is how your college gains points to use for Superhero days. Superhero days are when crew members voluntarily visit children in the hospital suffering from pediatric cancer. During these visits, patients willreceivee a Love Your Melon hat along with 'superhero' items that crew memebers have obtained through LYMThese days are very special to both the crew members and the patient.

Hi Jen! I think this is a really great description of what LYM does!

1) I think you should definitely try and add where they make the hats, and include the average cost of the hats etc.

2) I also think you should try and find out how many students are active representatives, and how they do with sales and what their part in the process is

3) Try and find specific hospitals and families that are directly impacted by LYM

<nowiki> Otherwise great job this is super cool! User:Yasminzand (talk) 4:14, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
