Hi, I am Kelly (JelloMister). I am new to editing, but I would like to be able to contribute more. Be kind! ;-)

I am the Secretary of Wikimedia Australia and have been on the Board since 2022. I gave a presentation at Wikimania 2021 as part of the Wikimedia Australia presentation.

Broader research and work on Wikipedia

[edit]

Research assistant on project led by Heather Ford and Tamson Pietsch. The project looked at connections between Wikipedia articles and recipients of the Order of Australia. Some of the charts that came from our analysis are available to use on wikicommons. The data set can be found here: https://code.research.uts.edu.au/146452/who-do-we-think-we-are

Article Creation

[edit]

What sort of pages do I like to create

[edit]

I don't have a particular interest in creating biographies of people with certain backgrounds. Most of the pages created below have been linked to some research work that looked at Order of Australia recipients and wikipedia biographies. Our research showed that women being recognised for work in nursing, aged care, rural health, etc were less likely to have a page. Two of the women we found had a wikidata entry but no wikipedia page, so Megan-Jane Johnstone was the first I created from this work. Creating her page led me to Mona Menzies and Annie M. Sage. So while there seems to be a lot of nursing themed bios, I have no background or connection to the field.

If I look up a person and there is readily available info be able to cite, I will be more likely to make a page. I would like to keep up the momentum of page creation, but I have to do it in between a pretty heavy workload, so the more readily available credible sources I can find and cite means I'm more likely to create a page. Is there a category for a lazy editor? If so, that may be me!

Overall, I'd like to contribute to the amazing work being done here already to increase representation of women and minority groups.
