Kate McGill Kate Laura McGill (born March 10, 1990),^[1] ^[2] is a singer-songwriter from the UK. She currently has almost 20 million upload views on YouTube,^[3] which has served as the launching point for her music career.

Background[edit]

Kate was born in Carmarthen, Wales to Joanna and Rory McGill. Kate describes her parents as "ridiculously supportive and lovely."^[2] She has one sister, Victoria, and two brothers, Stephen and Nick. Kate describes her childhood as "relatively lovely" and states that it was "nothing out of the ordinary."^[2] Kate currently lives in Plymouth, South West England, where she studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Plymouth for a year before dropping out to concentrate on her musical career.

Career[edit]

Kate McGill rose to popularity through YouTube, where she currently has over 110,000 subscribers.^[3] She's used her Youtube fame to focus full-time on her music career, previously quitting her job at Zara, a popular clothing store. She is currently unsigned, but managed by Charlie Arme.^[4] Kate is working on her first album, while touring England. Harriet Davies, of The Big Issue recently wrote that "her folk-inspired music already invites comparisons with this year’s favourite Ellie Goulding."^[5]
