Airport Names

[edit]

Most of the contentious airports are not new airports. Incheon, for example, may be far away from Seoul, but it was built specifically to serve Seoul, in place of Gimpo.
Reus, Bergamo etc, on the other hand, have existed for a long time and have long been intended to serve that town, and not the closest big city that may be a hundred kilometres away. Prefixing a big city name is basically just a marketing ploy by airlines or the airport itself. Just adding London as a prefix doesn't mean Oxford Airport physically moved and no longer serves Oxford.
Keeping that in mind, here's a list of cities that genuinely have more than one airport, as well as suggested exclusions. The second list is that of cities with only one airport, with suggested exclusions.
