Gayatri Gopinath is an Indian author and assistant professor at NYU.

Personal Life[edit]

Born in New York in 1969[1], the daughter of P. Gopinath and Bharati Nair, [2] Ms. Gopinath was educated at Wesleyan University and Columbia University. Her mother Bharati Nair is the granddaughter of K.P.S. Menon, first Foreign Secretary of India. Her father Padmanabha Gopinath was a career diplomat and the son of P. P. Pillai (d 1977), India's first ambassador to the United Nations. She also has a brother, Deepak.

Career[edit]

In 2005 Duke University Press published her book Impossible Desires: Queer Diasporas and South Asian Public Cultures.
