Jean Correy Jones (born 1942), nee Evans a was the President and CEO of Girl Scouts Mile High Council for 25 years, and has been instrumental in nonprofits across Denver. She was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 2006.[2]
Biography
[edit]Jean Evans was born in Denver, Colorado. Her family has been in Colorado for five generations, and her ancestor James Correy came to CO with General Palmer. He was a lobbyist for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroads.[2]
She is a nonprofit mainstay in Colorado. Jones was president of the Junior League of Denver from 1979-1980.[3]
In 1982, she was appointed as executive director of the Girl Scouts Mile High Council in Denver, and remained in the position until she retired in 2007.[4][3] She started the Women of Distinction award program to connect Girl Scouts with local female leaders.[5]
Jones served as the first woman president of the Denver Rotary Club in 1995, and afterwards remained a trustee.[6][2]
She was a trustee of the Colorado Trust from 1996 to 2002, and served as chairwoman of the board from 2000 to 2002.[6]
Served on Colorado Civil Rights Commission member and past president of Women's Forum of Colorado
vice chair and trustee for Historic Denver member and past president of Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award Committee board member of the Samaritan Institute and Mountain States Employers Council
Personal life
[edit]Jean Jones married Stewart Hoyt Jones on August 3, 1963.[7] They have two sons and four grandchildren.
