University of Worcester Rowing Club
[edit]The University of Worcester Rowing Club (UWRC) is the rowing club of the University of Worcester.
Founded in 2006 UWRC is one of the newest rowing clubs in the UK. At the moment the club is very much developing and aspirational. The appointment of a new coach in 2008 has helped the club grow substantially, developing better training and increasing the size of the fleet to accommodate the new members.
The club intends to continue this growth for the next few years to build a solid and consistently sized squad that is able to compete on the national level as quickly as possible.
The 2008-2009 season saw a very good start to this, beginning with a very small membership indeed and limited resources, the membership worked hard to recruit well and find the talent to help the club compete. By the end of the season the club had a very strong eight that competed at the Henley Women's Regatta achieving the quarter finals. For the first year in which the club owned an 8, an incredible achievement.
Next year will see the club looking to build a reputation for fast development of beginner athletes in the West Midlands region, as well as a strong and competitive senior squad to represent the club at the most prestigious UK events such as Henley Royal Regatta.
