Biography

[edit]

Honroth was born in 1897.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). In the early 1920's he trained at Weber and Rice's gymnasium in Melbourne, also becoming an employee of the business, and he attempted to become an active professional wrestler in 1922,[1] with the public endorsement of his trainer former heavyweight champion Clarence Weber.[2][3] He made his debut in June 1923 defeating Jim McMurdo then lost to heavyweight champion Billy Meeske in a title match in Melbourne.[4][5][6] His next match was a victory against Floria Franish in September,[7] in what was described as an unexciting bout,[8] in November he wrestled a draw with Jim McMurdo,[9] then in December he went on hiatus from wrestling for a holiday.[10]

In January 1924 Honroth was described as having the potential to become as good as Clarence Weber the reigning heavyweight champion,[11] and was booked to wrestle Meeske for the cruiserweight championship with promotion of the match emphasizing that his training with Weber and improvement since his last match with Meeske.[12][13][14] He lost to Meeske in February, however reporting noted he had improved considerably,[15] although the match was described as featuring too much defense to be a spectacle.[16] In May a rematch was booked between Honroth and Jim McMurdo,[17] which Honroth won after an even bout.[18] He then fell ill with influenza leaving him unable to wrestle although he continued working as a trainer for the Weber and Rice gymnasium,[19] and was able to conduct wrestling exhibitions with Weber.[20] He returned to the ring in September defeating Peter Fatouros,[21] and in December he faced Australian amateur heavyweight wrestling champion Jim Heslin in his professional wrestling debut winning on points.[22][23]

In March 1925 Honroth performed demonstrations alongside Clarence Weber to promote professional wrestling and the Weber and Rice gymnasium.[24][25] In April he rescued a man in Bairnsdale who was drowning after a boat collision,[26][27] and the same month he married and embarked on his honeymoon.[28][29] In March 1926 he returned to the ring losing in a rematch to Jim Heslin.[30] He then performed wrestling demonstrations to promote the profession,[31] but did not have another match until July when he defeated Fred Bromley.[32]

The Brisbane Heat are an Australian cricket club who play in the Big Bash League, the national domestic Twenty20 competition. The club was established in 2011 as an inaugural member of the eight-club league. The Big Bash League consists of a regular season and a finals series of the top four teams. This list includes players who have played at least one match for the Heat in the Big Bash League and the Champions League Twenty20.

As of 2013 Brisbane Heat had eighteen full Contracts available.[38] Players not contracted to the club may also be named supplementary players and represent the Heat,[39] and can also be signed on rookie contracts to train with the team.[40] He returned to the ring in 1931 when he was booked to wrestle Billy Meeske in Brisbane for the heavyweight title,[41] however he had become better known for running his fish and chips shop with the crowd laughing when he was announced and the match, which he lost, being viewed as a comedy bout which was criticized for its violence.[42][43][44]

Fatouros left wrestling after his match with Meeske instead focusing on his cafe and fish shop,[45] although he retained some fame with a local newspaper reporting a visit he made to Broken Hill in 1945 due to his former wrestling career.[46] He died in 1953.[47]
