Ruth Connell, Born 20th April 1979, Falkirk, Scotland. Occupation Actor Years active 2005–present Ruth (Fiona) Connell is a Scottish theater, film, television and voice actor. Most recently she played "Bonnie" in the 2014 Feature Film "The Cursed Man" and was nominated as "Best Leading Actress" in the 2013 BroadwayWorld Los Angeles Awards for her portrayal of Mrs Darling and Captain Hook at ^[1]^[2], Los Angeles in their award wining production of "Peter Pan; The Boy Who Hated Mothers".

Background

Ruth was born in Falkirk infirmary, Central Scotland and brought up on a farm outside Bonnybridge. A professional dancer and Scottish Ballet Champion, she attended The Theater School of Dance and Drama in Edinburgh and later went on to gain a BA (Hons) degree in Acting from Rose Bruford College in London.

Early Life

Selected for The Scottish Ballet's Vocational Dance Education Scheme, Ruth attended classes for 2 years at 261 West Princess Street, Glasgow, The Scottish Ballet headquarters. She performed with Scottish Ballet during and after this time in their ballets "Giselle", "Napoli", "The Margaret Morris Movement Tribute" and in two separate productions of "The Nutcracker", the second time as the young lead role of "Clara". Whilst competing as a teenager, Ruth won the titles of "Scottish Junior Ballet Champion" and then "Scottish Senior Ballet Champion" at BATD (British Association of Teachers of Dance) Festivals in Helensburgh.

Career

After leaving The Theatre School of Dance and Drama and working as a dancer with companies "The Curve Foundation", "Jazz Art UK" and with Leah Stein at "Dancebase" Edinburgh, Ruth then attended Rose Bruford College in London where she gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Acting. She was picked as "Critics Choice" by the adjudicator from The Stage Newspaper for her graduation showcase. After graduating from Drama College she performed the lead role of "Grusha" in Bertolt Brecht's "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" which toured for "The Palace Theatre", Watford" in 2005. Miss Connell toured the UK in 2005 with The Oxford Stage Company's (nee Headlong) revival of "Men Should Weep" in the role of Isa In 2006 she played the lead female roles of "Gretchen" and "Helen of Troy" in Faust Parts 1 and 2 at The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh. The production was CATS nominated (Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland). In 2007 played a ballroom dancer "Lily" at The Citizens Theater's sell out production of Alex Norton's "No Mean City". In 2008 Miss Connell played the dual roles of Mrs Beaver/Mrs Mcready to glowing reviews "The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe" at The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh 2009 Saw Ruth was cast as a series regular in the ITV sitcom pilot "Above Their Stations" which also starred Denis Lawson, Ashley Madekwe and Simon Dudley shown on BBC 3. Ruth Connell is also credited with producing "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and "Hansel And Gretel" at The Avenue Theatre Company based in Greenwich during this time period. Since moving to the United States in 2011, Miss Connell has had lead roles in the award winning indie film "Folklore" as well as in feature films "Meth Head" and "A Perfect Ending". She has voice-matched the character of Merida in association with the Disney Pixar film Brave for ancillary recordings. Her portrayal of the dual roles Mrs Darling/Captain Hook in Director Michael Matthews production of Michael Llubere's "Peter Pan; The Boy Who Hated Mother's" at The Blank Theater, saw her nominated for "Best Leading Actress in a Play" in the 2013 BroadwayWorld Los Angeles awards.
