The Panhard VCR ( Véhicule de Combat à Roues) is a light armored personnel carrier (APC) designed by Panhard for the export market and later used by several countries. The largest order of VCR's was 100 for Iraq, who purchased the antitank guided missile (ATGM) variant.[1]
The VCR is a 6x6 wheeled APC designed in the late 1970s with production commencing in 1979. The center pair of wheels can be raised when the vehicle is operated on roads.
The VCR was designed such that various weapons could be mated with the basic vehicle in a series of variants. The basic weapons option was a 12.7-mm heavy machine gun, but the VCR can also mount 20-mm automatic cannon or a turret for launching the HOT ATGM. The ATGM variant was known as the VCR/TH (VCR/Tourelle HOT).
Other versions included a recovery vehicle, an ambulance, a command post vehicle, an electronic warfare vehicle, and a modified 4x4 variant produced for Argentina. The 4x4 variant replaced the center wheels with waterjets.
Besides the three crew, the basic VCR/TT (Transport de Troupes) can transport nine infantrymen.
