Topic

[edit]

Folk Psychology is my topic for this assignment. I am interested in further understanding both the subject's influence on the field of psychology and its contribution to the recognition of psychology as a science revolving around the principles of the Scientific Method.[1]

Tentative Article Layout

[edit]

Aim: To expand upon the existing article covering Folk psychology

  • "Folk Psychology" general information & introducing key points of article
- definition
- folk-lore dimension of domain
- academic dimension (if any) of the domain
- elements of folk psychology[2]
  • Key Procedural Principles
- (ie: how one reaches a conclusion in Folk Psychology)
  • Applications
- the uses of folk psychology vis-a-vis psychological science[3]
- use as a narrative practice[4]
  • Major Criticisms (citing multiple academic journal articles)
- it's effect in terms of encouraging the use of cognitive heuristics and biases[5] and context effects[6] in the scientific community in reaching scientifically acceptable conclusions of hypotheses (ie: counter to Scientific Method, etc.)
  • Counter-Arguments to Criticisms (citing multiple academic journal articles)
- folk psychology is not so much a predictive device as it is as "multi-purpose tool"[7]
