The Irie The Irie is an American reggae/alt-pop band based in Phoenix, Arizona. The band was originally formed in Chandler, Arizona, by George Ruiz in 2012. The current lineup, consisting of George Ruiz (lead vocals, guitar), Marcus Mapes (bass), and Johnny Groove (drums), has been together since late 2020.

History The band was originally formed by George Ruiz in 2012 in Chandler, Arizona. However, the current incarnation began when drummer Johnny Groove moved back to his hometown of Tempe, Arizona, from Los Angeles. He soon linked up with Ruiz and Mapes, and the trio quickly formed a strong musical connection. They recorded their first single, “Toxic Love,” marking the start of their new musical direction and partnership.

Following the success of “Toxic Love,” the band released their debut EP, Coming Down, which helped solidify their unique blend of reggae and alternative music. Their second EP, Can’t Get Enough, was released in February 2021 and debuted at #1 on the iTunes Reggae Charts, #12 on the Billboard US Current Reggae Albums chart, and #75 on the overall iTunes charts.
