History
[edit]Extracted from a Danson Decor Flower Catalogue, circa 1986.
"The history of Danson Decor began in 1936 while Nora Aziz was recuperating from an illness. To pass the time, she learned the art of hand-crafting artificial flowers from a cotton-muslin fabric known as organdy[1]. In a short time, word of her talents spread, resulting in requests by many people to purchase her beautiful creations.
Her husband, John Aziz, saw the potential commercial market for these flowers. He formed a company called Damascus Art Flowers and proceeded to sell to local retail stores. The living room of the Aziz home became a workshop and their children, 2 daughters and a son, helped with production after school.
As the demand grew for artifical flowers, especially corsages for ladies' hats and dresses, a very popular adornment of that era, a few more employees were hired. A significant step in the company's progress was the introduction of a new material, treated shavings froms trees of Formosa[2], which looked and felt like real flowers and when crushed, had the ability to recover by being placed in an ice box.
Expanding sales required still more employees and production space. The company moved out of the Aziz home and into a commercial location.
As new materials and processes were incorporated, additional lines of flowers, floral arrangements and fruits from various fabrics were introduced. Soon after, a complete line of Christmas decorations was added and became a new division of the company.
By 1980, the diversity of its products encouraged the company to change its name to Danson Decor Incorporated.
Today, Danson operates from a spacious warehouse and head office based in Montreal with Sales Representatives in showrooms across Canada. The company prides itself with its quick service and the widest and most up to date range of artificial flowers[3] at more than competitive prices. Albert Aziz, and his sons Richard and Mark, maintain the same company tradition today that began so many years ago."
