Bangladesh Scouts Sea Region

[edit]

Bangladesh Scout Sea Region is a special region of Bangladesh Scouts. It was primarily established in 1976. The founder of Bangladesh Scout Sea Region is Mr. Paresh Lal Chaterjee (PL Chaterjee). Sea Scout all around Bangladesh calls him "Bhalo Da".

History

[edit]

On 21 February 1976, about 50 Sea Rovers, who were deployed to maintain peace and order at Shaheed Minar along with the Rovers operated by Dhaka University, helped the state and foreign guests gathered at the Shaheed Bedi under the leadership of Mr. P. L. Chatterjee in offering wreaths to the state and foreign guests gathered at the Shaheed Bedi. Seeing that the then Chief of the Bangladesh Navy, Rear Admiral MH Khan, had already arrived, the leader and Sea Rovers ordered him to help and welcome him. After giving the wreath, the Chief of the Navy said, "Who are you?" In view of that, he was informed about the identity of Sea Rovers, Sea Scouts and various difficulties and what Sea Scouts used to get from the Navy during the Pakistan period. Then he ordered to contact the then Navy Headquarters during office hours. For about 4 days, all the documents of the Sea Scouts were shown in his secretariat and he was fully informed about the Sea Scouts. He was satisfied and expressed his interest in accepting Sea Scouts into the Navy.

In view of this, in the meeting of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Bangladesh on 21-04-1976, 'Bangladesh Sea Scouts' was permanently established as a region of Bangladesh Boy Scouts under the auspices of the Navy and was recognized for its management. Former Navy Chief Late Rear Admiral MH Khan was present at that meeting as a representative of the Navy Scouts and he took charge as the first Commissioner of the Navy Scouts of Bangladesh. Local Scouts were initially introduced in Dhaka, Khulna and Chittagong to manage the 'Sea Scout Region' in the Navy.

The Navy Scouts are moving forward with the passage of time. The 1st Naval Regional Scout Gathering was held in Dhaka in 1985. Then, Kaptai, Khulna, Chittagong and Mouchak gatherings were held in 87, 90, 92 and 94 respectively. In 1986, the first 6 Sea Scouts won the President Scout Award. Then in 1989, 8 Sea Scout won this award. Since 1993, Sea Scout has gained new momentum. It has gained fame in various ways in the national and international arena. This year, 22 Sea Scout won the President Scout Award. In 1994, 43 people won the President Scout Award, breaking the record of all regions of Bangladesh. The issue of getting 11 people awarded for 1995 is under consideration by the Scout Headquarters. In addition, a significant number of social development awards have been won. It has been completed by LT, ALT and many Wood Badgers.

Sea Scout has been successfully participating in the Bangladesh Scout Jamboree gatherings and programs and the calls of government and organizations since its birth and has been gaining considerable fame in the national and international arena. This trend will continue, this is our deep hope and promise.
