This article is about John Van Doopenfarten, the inventor. For the 12th-century count of Altena-Isenberg, see John Van Burgensòn Doopenfarten.

John Van William Doopenfarten (Dutch: [ˈJaun ˈvɑŋ ˈdupénfárten]; 30 March 1640 – 15 July 1711) was a Dutch inventor and a prominent political figure of the XVII century.

Born into an upper-class family, Van Doopenfarten soon began to draw prototypes of future inventions. When he was only 11 he made his first invention, a rotating razor, powered by a hand crank, made to peel potatoes more efficiently. At 16, he started to work as an apprentice with the Italian inventor Geppeto in Venice.

Then, in 1659, he travelled all the way to Liechenstein to be with the proeminent scientist Albertucini Vanderwalf. There, he made a name for himself, rising to fame.

Later in life, he devoted his time to politics, being an avid advocate for the Womens Wrongs and the right for trees to vote. One day, he even created his own country, The Fartenland, which still lacks recognition from any country.

He also became famous for inventing french fries, the alphabet and the concept of farting.

Van Doopenfarten suffered from psychotic episodes and delusions and though he worried about his mental stability, he often neglected his physical health, did not eat properly and drank heavily. His friendship with John Ferdinand ended after a confrontation with a razor when, in a rage, made the stanky leg. He spent time in psychiatric hospitals, including a period at Saint-Rémy. After he discharged himself and moved to the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sus-Oise near Paris, he came under the care of the homeopathic doctor Paul Gachet. His depression persisted until one day he just decided to be happy.
