The 2012-13 National Premier League (also known as the 2012-2013 Red Stripe Premier League for sponsorship reasons) was the 39th season of top-tier football in Jamaica. It began on 2 September 2012 and ended on 8 April 2013.

Harbour View F.C. finished 1st overall, earning the fourth league title in club history. Defending champions Portmore United ended the season in 2nd place while Village United and Highgate United finished bottom of the table and were relegated.

Teams

[edit]

A total of 12 teams contested the league, including 10 sides from the 2011-2012 season, and two promoted from the second division via the 2012 National Playoff.

Cavalier F.C. won promotion from the KSAFA Super League with a 2-0 win over New Green on 3 June 2012, ending the club's 17-year absence from the top division of Jamaican football.[2]

Savannah S.C. earned a spot in the 2012-13 National Premier League on the same day as Cavalier, with a 1-0 victory over Volvo F.C.. The western club enjoyed its second promotion in just two seasons. [3]

The two teams promoted replace Reno F.C. and Village United, who were relegated to the second division Parish leagues at the end of the previous season.

Use this section to write an overview of notable events that occurred throughout the season. It could include, but is not limited to, writing about decisive matches, primary factors as to why x-team won/relegated, notable player/manager arrivals, etc. This section should be well-written, properly sourced, and neutral in tone. This section should not be a list. The inclusion of this section is highly encouraged if it can be done properly. If not, this section is optional.

Table formatting

[edit]

The following set of rules have been formed by consensus to display these tables:

  1. Display all competitions in the qualification column as far as possible, for example "Qualification to Champions League Group stage and Final series" with the proper links to both tournament. This since it is not good to hide qualifications in the notes and for example if teams 1 and 2 dont show "final series" readers may think they dont participate in that tournament. The color should be color of most important tournament so first Copper followed by green and blue.
  2. Wikilinks to the tournaments should be according to discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 91#Comments. That means "2015 FIFA Club World Cup" would be "Club World Cup" and 2014-15 AFC Champions League" should be "Champions League" (with wikilink to correct season torunament like [[2014–15 UEFA Champions League#Group stage|Champions League Group stage]]). In cases with multiple tournaments rounds may also be omitted like "Qualification to Champions League and Final series" if the information gets long.
  3. Use the following colouring scheme:
Type Green Blue Yellow Red Black Extra Color

Top flight
Champions League/Copa Libertadores
Top in country green1, lighter green for earlier rounds
Second continental tournament
Top in country blue1, lighter blue for earlier rounds

Top goalscorers

[edit]

(In terms of statistics, a table of the top goalscorers should be the minimum. Goalscorers list should be kept to the top ten and those with the same amount of goals as the tenth.)

Statistics

[edit]

(NOTE: The inclusion of this section is not decided yet as it may contain stuff which should be avoided per WP:NOT#STATS and WP:TRIVIA. A possibly suitable set of facts should be discussed at the talk page. In any case, everything which should make the cut has to be sourced!)
