WHO AM I?
[edit]My name is Hayley Georgina Mills.
I am a second year student at the school of arts media in the University of Hull Scarborough Campus.
I am interested in film and television and creating short films on YouTube. [1]
I am going to write a topic on world war 1 in Scarborough to mark the 100 years. The article I'm going to be focusing on with Conor Robinson is HMS Hardy (1912) We could also possibly focus on Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre homepage.
Reflective statement
[edit]During the course of deciding of what topic to go through i had the choice of either World war 1 or Lovebytes. I decided because i like my history that i would go with World war 1. Straight away me and Conor decided to work together as a team on HMS Hardy (1912) We wrote down what sources to look for and gave each other tasks to do. Conor and myself worked very well as a team and spoke to each other via the talk page. However finding information to use was a difficult task. We wanted to find some books on HMS Hardy however when we went to the library in the university and search for booked nothing came up related to what we was looking for and the same thing happened when we met up at Scarborough library in the town center and even they didn't have any books. I tried looking online for Google books but nothing showed up that could be used for the HMS Hardy page. However when the HMS Hardy page was published a Wikipedia editor put up two books about the battle of Jutland so that really helped a lot.
Using my sandbox i started to write down about the HMS Hardy and its timeline from a website i had found. Myself and Conor decided to meet up early in the morning to go to the labs rooms to work together on the HMS Hardy (1912) page. I decided to move what i had wrote over to Conor's sandbox and then we both started giving each other task in what to find in our research. I sorted out the references and make sure that they was all correct however at one point we had trouble with the reference list and we had the help from Harry who is a Wikipedia editor expert and told us to use
not spaced of course and this put it all correct. Conor worked on the info box and with the help with Harry we managed to sort out a copyright issue on a image of the HMS Hardy that had been found.
Before moving the sandbox over the the official HMS Hardy (1912) page Conor contacted someone on treehouse to see if they could check it out before we moved it over and someone called LukeSurl kindly pointed out that it was a good start of the page and how to improve it and even edited most of it for us so that was our first interaction with someone other than classmates. When the page was moved over for the public to see we got more people editing the page straight away. Conor also put a education banner in the talk page so that they knew it was a course subject. I think our first article done on Wikipedia has turned out quite good but it could have been improved if we had found some booked on war ships.
