Geoffrey Nevill (1842 -10 Feb 1885) born in Holloway, London, England, was a British scientist, a malacologist who worked primarily in Calcutta, India. Nevill had previously done malacological fieldwork in Mauritius, the Isle of Bourbon, and the Seychelles; some of the new species he found in those localities were named and described in 1868 by Henry Adams (the brother of Arthur Adams). Nevill's father William had a famous collection of meteorites.[1] Geoffrey Nevill often worked with his brother Hugh Neville.
Hugh Nevill, (1847 - 10 April 1897), was the younger brother of Geoffrey Nevill, and was also British. He was a civil servant. He lived in in Sri Lanka for 32 years, starting in 1865. Hugh Neville was a shell collector like his brother, but not to the same degree, because he was a more general naturalist who collected other natural history objects. Hugh Nevill also had a large collection of Sinhalese manuscripts. Hugh Neville died in 1897 in Hyères, France. His shell collection was auctioned on 10 May 1904.[1]
