Biography

[edit]

Frontman Per Borten formed Spidergawd with the intentions of it being a "stoner rock side-project" but it eventually became a full time project after the band began to garner a following. The band released their self-titled debut album on 31st January 2014, which received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Spellemannprisen award (The Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for Best Rock Album but did not win.

Just under a year later, the band released their second album, titled "Spidergawd II" through Crispin Glover Records / Stickman Records on 16th January 2015. Later that year, the band was nominated for the Bendiksenprisen award which is granted by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture with a winning prize of 100,000 Norwegian kroner (approximately $11,000). This time, however, the band won.

The band then released their third album on 21st January 2016, titled "Spidergawd III". This album was the last to feature bassist Bent Sæther before his departure later that year as the immense work schedule the band's increasing popularity gave him made it incredibly difficult to manage his other band Motorpsycho and Spidergawd at the same time. This was announced on June 1st 2016. He was replaced by bass player Hallvard Gaardløs.

On 24th February, 2017, the band released their fourth studio album, titled "Spidergawd IV".

On 11th January, 2019, the band released their fifth studio album, titled "Spidergawd V".

On 9th December, 2021, the band released their sixth studio album, titled "Spidergawd VI". As of December 30th 2021, this marks the longest time period between two releases in the band's history. The album was recorded and mixed at Soergarden Studios in September 2020.
