Frogs and Worms and Butterflies is the 17th episode of the first season of Peppa Pig.
Synopsis
[edit]Peppa and George visit Grandpa Pig and his garden when they decide to play with the various creatures who show up.
Summary
[edit]The Pigs show up at Granny and Grandpa Pig's house. Peppa and George run down the hill into the garden, where Grandpa Pig is, and they are quickly distracted when a butterfly suddenly floats by. After she lands on one of the flowers, Peppa asks what it is doing so Grandpa explains how a butterfly drinks from the flower. They watch as it gets a quick drink and floats onto Peppa.
Peppa is captivated by a butterfly that lands on her. When it flies away, she playfully mimics its movements. George, seeing how much fun she's having, tries to join in by pretending to be a butterfly too. Peppa, however, tells him that he has to be something else since she's already playing that game. She suggests he pretend to be a worm and continues her butterfly game.
George isn't thrilled with Peppa's idea and drops down the worm, starting to cry. Grandpa Pig notices George's upset mood and tries to show him how fun being a worm can be ever since he was younger. They get down on the ground and start wiggling, which catches Peppa's attention. She watches them with interest and decides she wants to join in the worm fun too.
Together they wiggle on the ground, until they decide to take a break and a frog joins them. It croaks, catching their attention. But Peppa doesn't really believe a frog can be copied or imitated until Grandpa Pig shows her just how much a frog can do. He points out that it can hop and croak, and points out how much frogs enjoy jumping around in muddy puddles; just like they do.

[edit]- (Possibly a goof or error) The title is a reverse of what happens in the episode. The butterfly shows up first, with the frog last. The worm remains second though.
- This is the first episode where Peppa reviews her experience with the viewer at the end.

Transcript
[edit]Narrator: Peppa and George are helping Grandpa Pig in his garden.
(Peppa and George are dropped off at Granny and Grandpa's house, they run to the garden with shovels, laughing and jumping in place. Just then, a butterfly flies by, and they stop in awe.)
Peppa Pig: Wow!
Narrator: What a beautiful butterfly.
(The butterfly lands on a flower.)
Peppa Pig: Grandpa, why do butterflies like flowers?
Grandpa Pig: They get their food from flowers.
Peppa Pig: How?
Grandpa Pig: They have very long tongues.
Peppa Pig: Longer than mine? (Blows raspberry)
Grandpa Pig: Oh, yes. The butterfly's tongue is even longer than yours. She uses it to drink from the flower.
(The butterfly drinks from the flower, then burps after finishing.)
Peppa Pig: Wow!
(The butterfly lands on Peppa’s dress.)
Grandpa Pig: Peppa, the butterfly thinks you're a flower.
Peppa Pig: I'm not a flower! I'm Peppa Pig! She is so pretty. I want to be a butterfly.
Narrator: Peppa is playing at being a butterfly.
Peppa Pig: I'm a little butterfly!
Narrator: George wants to play too.
(George is seen pretending to be a butterfly, but a displeased Peppa comes back.)
Peppa Pig:
- George, I'm the butterfly. You have to be something else.
- I know. You can be a wriggly worm. (giggles as she hands the worm to George and runs off, continuing game)
- Look, look! I'm a butterfly.
(George drops the wiggly worm and starts crying)
Narrator: Oh, dear! George does not want to be a worm. He wants to be a butterfly.
Grandpa Pig:
- George, when I was a little piggy, I used to like playing at being a worm. It's very easy to be a worm. I'll show you how.
- First, you have to lie down on the ground. Then, you wriggle around. I'm a wriggly worm!
(George joins him in being a wriggly worm.)
Narrator: George and Grandpa Pig are having such fun being wriggly worms.
Peppa Pig:
- I'm a little butterfly. I'm a little butterfly!
- (She hears Grandpa Pig and George's laughter and turns around to look.)
- Look, look. I'm a butterfly.
Grandpa Pig: Yes, Peppa, you're a beautiful butterfly.
(He and George wiggles towards Peppa.)
Peppa Pig: Grandpa, George, what are you doing?
Grandpa Pig: We are wriggly worms.
Peppa Pig: I want to be a wriggly worm, too. (copies Grandpa Pig and George.) I'm a wriggly worm.
Grandpa Pig: I'm a wriggly worm.
Peppa Pig: I'm a wriggly worm. I'm a wriggly worm. How do you do? I love you. I'm a wriggly worm.
(All three of them sits upright and laughs.)
Grandpa Pig: That was fun. What animal do you want to be now?
Peppa Pig:
- Hmm. I don't know.
- (A frog appears.)
- Look, Grandpa! There's a little frog.
Grandpa Pig: Why don't you play at being frogs?
Peppa Pig: Hmm, frogs are not as pretty as butterflies or as wriggly as worms.
Grandpa Pig: But frogs do play a game you like.
Peppa Pig: Hmm. Do frogs play dolls' houses?
Grandpa Pig: Silly Peppa. What's your favorite game?
Peppa Pig: Jumping in muddy puddles!
Grandpa Pig: Yes. Frogs love jumping in muddy puddles.
(The frog jumps in a muddy puddle)
Peppa Pig:
- Yes, George! Let's play frogs.
- (She and George also jump in muddy puddles)
- I'm a little froggy. I'm a little froggy.
Narrator: The froggies have found a nice big muddy puddle to play in. Peppa and George love jumping up and down in muddy puddles. Everyone loves jumping up and down in muddy puddles.
Peppa Pig: Butterflies and worms are very nice. But I like frogs the best.
