Can Emed is a Surrealist artist and painter from Turkey.
Biography
[edit]Can Emed was born in Turkey, Istanbul, the son of Gülçin Çolak/Emed, also an artist; she is also the grand children of known fabricator; Şerif Çolak. Also the son of Recep Emed, he is also the grand son of Ottoman Empire's Harbiye Nazırı (Ministry of War), Mushir Recep Pasha, who is also his family-lines comes from Prussia. Can had an interest in arts since his childhood as his mother realised of his son's early efforts in arts and crafts when he is started to draw the walls of his bedroom when he is nearly 6 years old. When he is 10 years old, Can joins in a juniours exhibition of Tema Foundation in 1991, on a competition of "Erosion and Dunes" and wins the 1st Winner Award. In his education years, he still carries on making art stuffs and etc. On 1998, he starts in Yeditepe University on Arts and Crafts Department, Arts Plastiques Section. In faculty years, he joins several exhibitions and competitions with his art. On 2003, he graduated from Arts Plastiques Section, Yeditepe University.
Can Emed is always infuenced his art from the Symbolism, Surrealism and Fantastic art painters. Emed is especially influenced from Salvador Dalí and H.R. Giger. "[1] Can Emed, oftenly making his artworks with oil colours and Airbrush (Aerograph) on the large canvas surfaces. He oftenly uses horror images, dark phantasms, and grotesque figures to accompanied with the imaginary science-fictionised worlds and dreams that he draws. Emed started to move his Atelier from Istanbul, Nişantaşı, to Büyükada, Istanbul on 2009. He was also one of two few Surrealists who lives in Turkey. He wins nearly over 5 art-awards and joins nearly over 13 multiple expositions on Istanbul during the 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2007-08, 2010-11 seasons. Emed also played rhythm-guitar (Electric Guitar) in the 90's turkish Heavy Metal bands on a short period.
