Heidi Jo Hines

[edit]

Heidi is the daughter of Denny Laine and Jo Jo Laine

She was born in Chertsey, England, first living on a houseboat with her mom, dad and older brother Laine. Then, they all moved into 'Yew Corner'[1] in Laleham Village.

As a child, Heidi grew up surrounded by music, her father had a music room and would often have many musicians come round and play until the early hours. Heidi, Laine and her mother would often all join in singing and dancing. Her mom was a model & dancer and would take Heidi on trips to London, to go to Ballet and Jazz classes. At age 5, Heidi landed a small role in the west end musical 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'.

At age 9, when her parents divorced, Heidi, her mother and two brothers, Laine and Boston moved into a flat in North London. After a few years, Heidi's mom then moved her kids to Massachusetts. After moving several times in the Mass area, they eventually settled in her mother's hometown of Winthrop, where she had grown up. Heidi graduated from Winthrop High School, studying art, drama and chorus. At age 20, Heidi enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College, where she studied Music Theory and Art and also joined the school drama and chorus department, regularly performing in the college plays.

When Heidi was 21, her mother sent her back to London for what Heidi thought was a short trip, only to find out she had to stay and live there in order to look after her mother's flat, to make ends meet. While in London, Heidi got various jobs to support herself. She also joined many different bands and would go to open mics as a solo artist, performing her original songs and playing acoustic guitar. She eventually recorded her first demo tape, with the help of her brother Boston.

In 2001, Heidi gave birth to her daughter Jaylie Jo Wayling and her mother came over from America to stay with her. During this time however, Heidi's mom was gravely ill with liver cancer, so Heidi legally became her carer. In 2005 Heidi gave birth to her son Jesse Jay Wayling.

In 2006, Heid's mother tragically passed away, after a fall at their old house in Laleham, during a visit, after attending an old friends funeral across the street. After the loss, Heidi penned more and more songs, as an outlet for her grief.

In 2009, Heidi was invited by the prog band PBII to perform in Holland at the Poppodium Boerderij [2] where she sang two of her original songs 'It's Your Life' [3] and 'Weak Turns To Strong'[4] which were inspired by her mother.

In 2013, Heidi met multi-instrumentalist Nico Barchiesi, when he auditioned to be the drummer in her then band Earthprayer. Not too long after, they left Earthprayer and started their own musical and personal journey. Heidi & Nico spent years honing their craft and eventually writing enough songs for a full album. In 2016, they officially formed the band Giant Caterpillar [5] and have since recorded and released their debut album 'Monogamy'[6]
