Lead: The Rite of Exorcism in the Catholic Church is a highly controversial aspect of Catholicism. Its use has declined over time due to a variety of reasons, with these ranging from changes in thoughts about its validity as a procedure, an increase in lack of faith among the general population, past exorcisms with tragic results, and an increase in reliance on psychiatric practices. However, despite this, there are trends today that point to a resurgence in the use of the rite of Exorcism, with some medical professionals pointing to a “middle-ground” between psychiatry and spirituality [source]. Other forms of Exorcism from other denominations of Christianity, along with other religions, are also still in practice, meaning that the rite has not officially died out. There are many factors involved in the overall decline and possible revival of the use of exorcism in the Catholic church.
