Klocuch is a Polish YouTuber and Internet celebrity.[2]
Career
[edit]The person known as Klocuch started his activity in 2010, uploading amatueur video game reviews. The channel the videos were published on at the time was called 'Klocuch12'. The reception of the channel's activity was mostly negative, commenters pointed out the creators' lack of professionalism and immaturity. In 2012, the password to the channel "Klocuch12" was stolen, which prevented its founder from publishing content. He then set up a new account, this time called "KlocuchRecenzje", which with time changed its name to "Klocuch". The creator uses this account to this day, although the previous channel was returned to him after some time. Currently, the reception of Klocuch's videos is largely positive.[2]
Content
[edit]The content created by Klocuch is characterized by great variety. In addition to video game reviews he started his channel with, he also publishes videos with tips or thoughts on a variety of topics. One of the most recognizable forms of his work are the so-called "cabarets", that are, in fact, fragments of films and TV shows, with an amateur dubbing. In 2017, Klocuch expanded his activity to include covers of popular music pieces; his parody of the song Gucci Gang by American rapper Lil Pump, entitled Kruci Gang, posted on January 1, 2018, was viewed on YouTube over 4 million times.[3] Similar popularity was achieved a few months later, a reworking of the song Tamagotchi by the duo Taconafide, entitled Aezakmi.[4]
Klocuch's popularity is attributed to his specific way of speaking. In his videos, the creator uses a characteristic, primitive, childish language, abounding in neologisms, grammatical errors and regionalisms from all over Poland, and also speaks in an unusually squeaky voice. He never shows his face, so his identity is still unknown, despite many attempts to identify him.[2] Despite this, Klocuch sometimes makes guest appearances in the videos of other Polish creators, such as Bartłomiej Szczęśniak ("Mietczyński") or Jakub Klawiter.
Klocuch's mockery and characteristic type of humor have gradually increased over the years. A constant element of his work are references to early television programs, the beginnings of the Internet and computer games in Poland - issues of nostalgic value for the creator and his numerous viewers.[2]
In 2018, he voiced a villain in the game Cartonfall. As part of the promotion, on July 13, he posted a review of the title on his channel.[5]
On September 1, 2018, a retrospective exhibition titled Moje jest wygranko, devoted to the work of Klocuch[6] was set to open in the "Computer" gallery in Warsaw, but due to threats received by the organizers and the alleged disclosure of Klocuch's identity, the exhibition was postponed to October.[7] The official opening of the exhibition met with great interest of the public (over 20,000 people signed up for the event [8]) and with the approval of professional critics and industry media. [9] As a consequence of the popularity of the autumn exhibition, Klocuch became, among others, nominated as a candidate for the Paszport Polityki in the field of digital culture [10] and mentioned by the critic Stach Szabłowski as the debut of 2018 in the annual summary of the magazine SZUM. [11]
In August 2019, Klocuch released an album entitled Kaseta z komuni[12], referencing Taco Hemingway's Pocztówka z WWA, lato '19, as well as the works of Dawid Podsiadło. The album was played on the Polskie Radio Program IV. Klocuch also gave the station his first radio interview.[13][14]
On April 11, 2020, Klocuch released the song Kwiecień, which is a remake of the song Jesień by Quebonafide. The song reached the 30th place on the "Trending" tab in the "Games" category on YouTube.[15] On May 2, 2020 Klocuch participated in the #hot16challenge2 after being nominated by Taco Hemingway.[16]
