Located in Oradell, NJ, Handy Guide Inc. is a northern New Jersey based guide publisher. It is best known for its product: the HandyGuide, made popular in Bergen County, NJ. [1] The HandyGuide is a local and consumer focused area guide [1] [www.accessmylibrary.com 1] . There is a variety of more than a dozen HandyGuides including shopping area guides, hospital campus guides, university campus guides, and focused informational guides.
History
[edit]Founded by Iris Orsini in 1996, Handy Guide Inc. began producing HandyGuides as errand assistants.[2] The initial application of the HandyGuide was an outline of the Paramus, NJ Rt. 17 corridor and the constantly changing storefronts. It, soon after, expanded to include other surrounding shopping areas, including such districts as downtown Ramsey, Westwood, Woodcliff Lake, and Ridgewood, NJ[3] .
Current
[edit]In its current state, HandyGuides exist largely as merchant cooperative products through which merchants listed on area guides have the option to buy highlighted sponsorships. HandyGuides are distributed free to consumers by merchants that sponsor the guides as well as by HandyGuide and digital download [4] .
Alternatively HandyGuides may be purchased, commissioned, or sponsored privately by any individual or institution. Some of the better known examples of these are The Valley Hospital guide[5] , The Ramapo College of New Jersey guide, and the Holiday Inn Express of Ramsey upper Rt 17 guide.
Employee-owned expansion plans are now being considered for HandyGuide Inc.
