Rules of thumb
[edit]- name
- Full name of company, including legal status.
- foundation
- Date only.
- location
- Usually just town/city and country, but will add street/building if also notable (i.e. has own Wikipedia article). NO FLAGS!
- key_people
- Usually limit to just two, Chairman of the board and CEO, or just one if roles are combined. Will also add holders of other positions if widely regarded to hold particular influence (e.g. Bob Diamond at Barclays, Liliane Bettencourt at L'Oréal).
- industry
- Try to keep this as broad as possible, e.g. Financial services, Construction, Food industry.
- net_income
- Will generally use the net profit, group share, stripped of non-recurring items and discontinued operations for an "apples-to-apples" comparison.
- assets
- Do not go out of my way to include this for non-financial companies, as it is considered a less significant metric.
- num_employees
- For some unknown reason I quite like to round the number up (or down) to the nearest 10/100, especially for very large numbers. Since staffing numbers change by the day at big companies, there's something faintly absurd about stating that a company has exactly 123,456 employees.
