Evaluate an article
[edit]This is where you will complete your article evaluation. Please use the template below to evaluate your selected article.
- Name of article: Little Cambodia
- Briefly describe why you have chosen this article to evaluate.
- I have chosen this article to evaluate because in class we covered Cambodian immigration in Lowell and I thought it would be interesting to evaluate an article on Cambodians in the US.
Evaluating content
[edit]- Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?
- Everything in the article is relevant to the article topic.
- Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?
- Nothing in the article is out of date, but there are definitely many things that could be added to the article to make it more informative. The article could have estimate numbers of the Cambodian population in each of their locations. They could also add some of the traditions that occur within these communities.
- Can you identify any notable equity gaps? Does the article underrepresent or misrepresent historically marginalized populations?
- No, the article does not underrepresent.
- What else could be improved?
- As previously mentioned, there is not much information in the article, so adding some more details could enhance the article as a whole. There is only one picture in the entire article, so adding some more visual images could benefit.
Evaluating tone
- Is the article neutral? Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
- The article is neutral, and states factual information.
- Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
- There are no viewpoints that are overrepresented or underrepresented.
Evaluating sources
- Check a few citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article?
- The links all work and the sources support the claims in the article.
- Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted?
- The references used are reliable. The sources used include the New York Times, U.S Census Bureau, and the Washington Post.
- Do the sources come from a diverse array of authors and publications?
- The sources come from a diverse array.
Checking the Talk Page
- What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?
- There are no conversations.
- How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
- The article has not been rated, but it is a part of WikiProject Cambodia.
- How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class?
- In the article, it does not go in deep like the material we covered in class, it merely states that little Cambodia in Lowell is "A business community in the Lower Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, Massachusetts". It doesn't talk about the restaurants, people, and festivals that were in the articles for class.
