Katango were a New Zealand synth-pop band from Auckland popular during the mid 80's. Although they had limited commercial success, for a period in 1985, they were very well promoted in the public eye and media. They appeared as for guest performance on NZ Telethon[1] and appeared on the music program Shazam! (hosted by Philip Schofield) numerous times that year. The were nominated for two categories in the NZ Music Awards in 1985, for Most Promising Male Artist (Lead singer Paul Eversden) and Most Promising Band (Katango)[2]. They also won the Shazam! Golden Microphone Competition, for the Best Band of 1985, voted for by TV viewers[3]. Katango produced three singles [4], all with video releases. They also played support for Nik Kershaw when he played his only concert in New Zealand, on 15th May 1985. Drummer Nick Ferneyhough went on to a solo music career under the name Crofton Orr.
