Termux is a terminal emulator for Android, Chromebook,[1] and Fire OS[2] that enables a Linux environment on mobile devices as a tablet or a wearable. It is an open source solution with a minimal GNU base system that includes the Bash Unix shell, with additional packages available using Debian APT package manager. Termux works without rooting the device.

An XDA Spotlight article about Termux says that it's similar to the popular app Terminal Emulator but more powerful, as it offers advanced features[3] such as OpenSSH, TeX Live, Gnupg and Git, available as extra packages. Several programming languages are available, including Python, Ruby, Node.js, PHP, Perl and Go. More software is available via each language's respective package manager (Pip, Gem, npm). Addons provide extra features, Termux:API allows accessing hardware features as SMS messaging or GPS location directly on Termux.[4]
