There are some other features and practices I think should be deprecated.
categories
Categories as implemented today, are a powerful feature, with limiting flaws. I would prefer if they were never used by editors, and were only used, invisibly, by maintainers.
The limiting flaws include:
When looking at a category, one can't easily determine what elements it once contained, or when the current elements were added.
In the wikipedias we count on the good faith and good judgment of editors to only add articles to relevant categories, and to do so in a way that complies with WP:NPOV and other policies.
So, I'd like to see the exisiting category system used only for technical maintenance, and not used in an editorial context.
I'd like to see some kind of neo-category system introduced, to replace old-style categories in the editorial context. These neo-categories would keep a history of when articles were added, who added them.
Should we expect editors to offer a meaningful edit summary when they add an article or image to one of these neo categories? I think so. Should we expect them to add a reference to substantiate their explanation? Maybe. I dunno.
