Towards an infrastructure guideline
[edit]The wikipedia has some topic-specific notability guidelines, that supplment, and in some cases, supercede the General Notability Guidelines.
Some {{afd}} I have participated in suggest to me that there is a gap in our topic specific guidelines. A contributor who decided to focus their scrutiny on my contributions challenged several articles I had started on vessels, asserting they didnt measure up to the expectations of the GNG. But when they brought some of those articles to tl|afd they all closed as snow keep -- in recognition that nautical vessels are generally notable.
If those snow keeps reflected general consensus Id like to see that incorporated into a guideline.
As I recall, they argued that nautical vessels were like jet fighters, or bombers, and could adequately be covered in articles about the class. We do have some articles about specific bombers -- like the Enola Gay and the Memphis Belle. While each WW2 bombers crew got to give their bomber an unofficial() name, those unofficial names arent notable, because, with very few exceptions, bombers unofficial names arent notable because they arent verifiable.
Nautical vessels arent like bombers in that they proceed on independent missions, whereas fighters and bombers fight in formations.
