The United States Presidency has appointed a number of individuals to serve as Special Envoys tasked to serve as Special Envoy to shut down Guantanamo, by finding countries prepared to accept the transfer of captives.

Daniel Fried, who held the appointment from May 2009 to January 2013, held the rank of Ambassador.[1][2][3]
