Simcoe Street is an important street in downtown Toronto. In the 19th Century it was the site of both pre-Confederation legislature and of Government House, the residence of the Lieutenant Governor. The street, named after John Graves Simcoe, the first Governor of Upper Canada, was known until 1842 as "Graves Street".
