Early Life:

Jay Saksene was born on May 27th, Bridgeport , Connecticut. He grew up in the city of Bridgeport and spent his childhood between the city of Bridgeport and the town of Stratford where he attended and graduated from Bunnell High School (2016). His parents have been struggling with financial situations since he was 3 years old ultimately resulting in being helped raised by other families. The households he grew up in were not surrounded by hip hop, but instead “Pop” and “Rock” however, he found his love for rapping watching old school BET battle rappers such as “Jin” or “Salmon” which started his beginning as a battle rapper/rap artist.

Saksene was a troublemaker during his childhood and teen years. He was getting into unlawful activities and fights often  hanging out in the streets more than being at home, he learned to grow faster than others due to the traumatic experiences.

He learned to play guitar at a young age from his father giving him lessons and learning the saxophone later in middle school for band class. In Sixth grade, Saksene began recording songs in his bedroom, learning the mixing and mastering part, he dropped the songs on YouTube and Soundcloud. He started rap battling in 5th grade hanging out with older folks with the same interest. They took him under their wing, later rap battling against opponents in NYC substations and after school in 7th grade. Going into freshman year of high school, falling in love with the game of basketball and the harsh environment of the music industry, around this time, Evilly Jay quit music and started prioritizing the chaos in his life but behind the scenes he has been crafting and waiting for his moment. Now returning back into the game with his manager “Jordan Phommachanh”

Career:

Saksene began to develop as an artist seriously going into middle school. His first track was a remix of “Mr.Carter” by Lil Wayne was released on SoundCloud and Youtube under the name of “Jeided.” Saksene recorded most of his tracks in his bedroom and cellphone, creating constant freestyle videos in his garage, basement, or a car. Wherever he had the chance to record he took advantage, and then started uploading them in middle school. He changed his name from “Jeided” which was inspired from the root word jaded and was later changed to “Evilly Jay” after he quit as the artist “Jeided.”

His first tracks were all remixes from artist like Lil Wayne, T.I or Drake. He was also heavily influenced by Young Money. Without a producer, he took on the role as his own producer, learning the ins and outs of beat making in which he started working with various producers to focus on being an artist. While releasing songs on YouTube and Soundcloud, Saksene worked many jobs but was dissatisfied with working under someone; later quitting and  jumping from job to job. After doing many things at once, Saksene met with a few small record labels, ultimately trying to change his name and the artist he was. This was back in middle school; when the offer was denied due to his decision to quit music. He then Left his followers unanswered and ghosted for a few years on all platforms, going private due to certain circumstances. Few followers still remains from the “Jeided” part of his career and now following him as “Evilly Jay

Upon his return in 2018-2020 he received a feature from Four Pockets Full artist “Dirty Tay” and Rich Forever “SipTee” he began to gain recognition but remains unsigned, releasing the old tracks along with his new style of melodic rap. The artist focuses on music and is now building “Enrich The Family” empire that is a creative marketing platform for independent content creators. Bringing in a whole new audience.

Musical Style:

Saksene said his musical influences were genre-wide from rock to rap, starting from Linkin Park to mainly sticking to the hip-hop roots. His biggest influences growing up was Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Eminem, T.I and Lil Durk in his very early career when introduced to the rap-singing era and drill scene. With many more artists motivating him heavily. He was inspired by the change in hip-hop culture, Saksene decided to style his “rap singing” to produce a melodic feel to his songs. Once being introduced to the artist “Juice Wrld” years back, Juice eventually became his number 1 all time artist that influenced saksene to push for more creativity and unique sounds. Saksene would be asked who his top favorite artist is, “It will always be Juice Wrld”.

Saksene now entering the ranks in his career can be classified as “Emo Rap” given the nickname that derived from several artist like Juice Wrld or XXX Tentacion that solidified the “rock-rap” or “pop-rap” genre, he focuses primarily on all types of “rap” in all areas to display versatility in his music.

During interviews Saksene emphasizes on his heart breaks that motivate him to make “sad boy” music and also stresses that his team (Enrich The Family) are getting everything they deserve from the hard work they all put in.

“I hope one day I can get a bag and take care of the family[1]” said Saksene in a Kazi Magazine interview.

“ETF is a huge reason I work so hard on my music, I used to work on my craft day and night without releasing anything. Probably hundreds of songs that are hiding somewhere, but my people motivated me to keep my melodic style going, fuck yeah.” The Bridgeport Native acknowledges his team.

Other influences now include: Polo G; Lil Baby; Toosii; Rod Wave; Young Thug.

Saksene strives for his music to be “Genre-bending” with music focusing on heart breaks and past experiences, the artist (even though not heavily into the sad scenery) joins the list of artist that branded the name as “Emo Rap”

Or “genre-bending” Saksene then announces a new tape sometime late 2021 on his Instagram page @evillyjay.

Saksene has a history of getting into trouble that began at an early age, ultimately ending up in several minor court cases. He speaks openly about past experiences and the time it took to learn and mature.

Saksene’s mother struggles with an anxiety disorder, which leads Saksene into the battle against depression and anxiety; causing him to take daily pills of high dosages to avoid the continuous misuse of drugs and alcohol.

He was living in Waterbury, Connecticut with his girlfriend during the time of his fall out and passing of his “mother figure” guardian. He revealed his demons through songs after the couple split.

Lyrical themes:

Saksene saw his value in his position as an artist that has unmatchable work ethic with over flowing creativity, believing he is one of a few contemporary artist that can display any kind versatility through a melodic sound, also known for working on his hooks, style of tone and words or even switching to rapping on a classic beat as he did before. His lyrics are meant to show the hype and the sad, focusing on having his listeners tune in to a “catchy” tune. He believes his hooks can be addicting and emphasizes the song will grow on you given the chance.

“The music era is changing, so many new creatives with unique sounds, I feel good. I feel like I fit in enough to stand out. Shit is definitely changing.” Though his songs are not all filled with meaningful lyricism, and technicality, he has intricate flows and tongue twisting lines that adds his own style to rap by adding little more than simplicity. From singing, rapping to a speaking tone on the beat, Saksene gets recognition for his musical vibe and hooks of his songs. Not entertaining the battle rap perspective anymore, he focuses more on studio work and a little on freestyles.

His most popular single dating back to around 2016 “Take Off” was the artist most popular release combining for 20k views in several weeks across all platforms. The single represents his “Flow” and was released on SoundCloud. His biggest releases are the melodic heart break inspired composition that exhibits his songwriting talents.

His flows are complimented with a catchy vibe, to set the tone for those who are hurting emotionally and those who are ready to flex accomplishments. The best of both worlds. Saksene reaches out to more than just one specific audience.

Saksene stated that he has music that digs in deeper to an emotional level, slowly developing and venting single by single. Saksene offered that bright to dark touching feeling. Though fairly new, he has yet to make a groundbreaking career, his musical approach brings out the hooks and Adlibs that supports his followings. Having built his followings through melodic hip-hop, he separates himself with bittersweet music, heart breaking lyricism and his indecisive personality. His weakness comes with the indecisiveness and his strengths are built from pain and loved close ones. Only writing from personal experiences and feeding his dream ego, the lyrical content from his songs are centered to have boastful lines and creative flows that show the vulnerability through the emotions of love and hate.
