Upsilon Kappa Delta Multicultural Sorority is a social multicultural sorority. It was one of the first multicultural sororities founded on Chico State's campus [1]. They are known for their pillars of Academics, Community Service and Sisterhood with an emphasis of Multiculturalism [2]. Each year, chapters organize philanthropic, multicultural and academic events for their communities, ranging from step shows and performances to themed philanthropy weeks and co-hosted workshops.

History

Founded December 10, 1993 by 13 women who, according to their purpose, wanted to be an example of "The Ideal Multicultural Sorority" [3]

Academics

Like many Greek organizations based at universities, one of the sorority’s focuses is academics. The minimum GPA to be involved varies from chapter to chapter but nationally, is set at 2.75 to start the recruitment process and remain active. [4]

Community Service

The sorority's general philanthropy is Children with special needs [5]. Each chapter chooses a cause in their area to focus on, as well as causes special to that chapter's members. Local philanthropies include Yellow Door, Kids Karnivals, Monarch School, March of Dimes, and Relay for Life. Members also participate in events benefitting Parkinson's Disease, Suicide Prevention and Breast Cancer The national sorority philanthropy is Ronald McDonald House [6], focusing on providing support for families who have children undergoing medical treatment.

Sisterhood

Their pillar of sisterhood is emphasized in their motto "A Sisterhood 2 Tight 2 Break". [7]

The sorority's colors Forest Green, Maroon and Navy Blue always follow that order. [14]


The Butterfly symbol is also the mascot and is used on T-Shirts, recruitment flyers and other paraphernalia, sometimes with the sorority flower, the Stargazer Lily. [15]
