Recording

[edit]

In 2019, after Bergman's father and stepmother were killed by a drunk driver in a car accident, she spent several weeks on a silent retreat at a monastery in Chama Valley in New Mexico. Afterwards, she recorded Mercy, a reflection on the tragedy, and on her own spirituality.[4][5][6] She says she wrote most of the songs in Los Angeles, and near the end of the recording sessions, went to Chicago and wrote "I'm Going Home" and "Paint The Rain."[7] The album was recorded in Los Angeles at her brother Elliot's home studio.[8]
