Farhana Rehman is an Indian visual artist born on 28th December 1978 in Assam, India. She earned her visual arts diploma under Nikhil Bharat Sangeet Samiti, Kolkata and presently pursues her career in fine arts in Kolkata. Her works basically portrays the various perspective of human/social behavior towards cultural and religious entities. The themes of her artworks are mostly based on people and human beliefs.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Born in Dibrugarh, Assam to Mosiur Rehman and Salema Rehman, she is youngest amongst their three children. Her siblings are Sayeedur Rehman (Brother) and Nasreena Rehman (Sister). She received her formal education in her hometown in Little Flower School, a missionary run by Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco. Along with her regular academic activities in school, she had a deep passion for Fine arts which didn't go unnoticed to her parents eyes. She was admitted to a junior art school to let her painting skills develop further. After high school, she took her graduation in Sociology under Dibrugarh University. Simultaneously, she did her senior diploma courses in Fine arts under Nikhil Bharat Sangeet Samiti, Kolkata. After completing her final year in Fine arts, she started painting as an amateur artist.
Works as an Amateur
[edit]She started painting as an amateur artist at her home adding to her collection, reproductions of many European artists. Her style and subjects were mainly inclined to figures and portraits rather than landscapes and sceneries. She painted many reproductions of eminent European artists, amongst them she loved replicating a Francois Boucher, Rembrandt or a James Abbott McNeill Whistler. Personal life
[edit]She is married since 2011 to Irshad Rehman, who hails from a tea industrial background in Jorhat, Assam. Residing in their ancestral home in Assam for a year after marriage, they shifted to Kolkata.
Career
[edit]She began painting professionally after coming to Kolkata. The city known for its enrichment in art and culture, she found a platform to pursue her dreams. She started painting masterpieces for some of her clients, distinctively portraying her views on Indian culture, religious beliefs and the society. Some of her works are listed below:
