Othika is a village situated at the northern part of Namibia in Omusati Region. Othika is 25 km west away from Oshakati and approximately 27km southern from Okahao. It is surrounded by numerous villages, namely Oloole, Okapeto, Elimi, Oshuuli, Ekamba, Uutsima, Olupumbu and Iikologo, with the nearest small upcoming town of Onaanda which has a high school named Negumbo Senior Secondary School and more improved infrastructures.
Before Independence
[edit]As most other villages’ country wide, Othika has also suffered the consequences of flood because it is in a flood prone area. During the colonial era this village was also affected, the inhabitants’ houses were destroyed and their cultivating land was left dilapidated, although the village managed to reframe a moment after the war.
Economically
[edit]Economically, Othika is not that well-off to have large markets of its own, it thus has minimarkets and shebeen where villagers buy their basic needs and as well go for refreshment. This village is a place to be by the time of public holidays for its well known astonishing and enjoyable atmosphere, it also has a bright reputation for its well known football aspiration.
After Idependence
[edit]After the Namibian independence, vivid improvements could be read from Othika. These in a form of the introduction of electricity, land lines (telephones), mobile telecommunication network access and water. Othika as a village also have a combined school which accommodates pupils from pre-primary to grade 10. There is also Elcin church in Othika which has no religious discrimination.
Despite all that all that have happened and have improved in the area, there still more expectations which includes the construction of a gravel road which is already underway. Additionally there is a government clinic in Othika which was officially opened by the than Minister of Health and Social Services Libertine Amathila in 2007.
Individually Othika also produced leading figures of the republic of Namibia, namely, the 2012 Artist of the year Mushe and the prominent award winning Gazza (artist)[1], and other artist such as Jay-son, Dorian and many other upcoming musicians. Othika is a good village in Omusati Region .[2] .[3] .[4]
