The main rules on what can exist on Wikipedia are as follows:

  1. The subject must be "encyclopedic", that is, of a nature that an encyclopedia would cover.
  2. The subject must be notable - that is, there must be good evidence it has had significant attention in the wider world, and that this attention has an enduring interest.
  3. The subject must not fall within several categories of known "problem articles".

Common reasons why articles are not suitable include:

  • They are "useful", or "interesting", but not encyclopedic.
  • They are of very narrow and specialist fan interest only.
  • They were only in the media briefly.
  • They have been reported by sources but when examined are still not significant enough to merit an article.
