W. & J. Mackay was an England-based printing and publishing firm founded in Leith, the seaport of Edinburgh, in 1875. The principles were William Mackay (born about 1853) and his brother, John Mackay (born about 1855). In 1878, they also opened in Chatham, Kent, when the Chatham and Rochester Observer was acquired, with printing. From the earliest days, James was the printer while William had various journalistic jobs. The firm incorporated in 1897 as W. & J. Mackay Co. Limited and ran until the 1970s.[1]
W. & J. Mackay Limited incorporated April 17, 1897, and has since liquidated. The name, W & J Mackay Limited was restored to the Register of Companies, effective May 30, 2018.
