The Dominant was a monthly musical trade paper founded January 1894 by Arthur A. Clappé. It was published in Philadelphia. Beginning May 18924, The Dominant was absorbed into The Metronome, its erstwhile competitor publication.

In 1909, the publication was sold to the Dominant Publishing Company.

• 1909–1910: Willard Edwin Ingalls (1886–1941) was, from 1909 to 1910, secretary and treasurer of the Dominant Publishing Company. In 1910, Ingalls began doing editorial work for Jacobs Orchestra Monthly, a publication of Walter Jacobs (1868–1945) of Boston. Ingalls graduated from Harvard College in 1907 with a bachelor of arts degree.
