Esmond Pitt is a Melbourne IT consultant, technical author, electronics hobbyist, and musician.

He graduated B.A. (Mathematics and Philosophy) from the University of Melbourne, and studied Compiler Construction at University of California, Santa Cruz, with Frank de Remer and Thomas Pennello.

He was the major designer and author of Austec Cobol-74, the first 32-bit Cobol implementation for Unix. He subsequently became an internationally renowned expert in the Java programming language and has written two books about networking in that language.

He runs the vintage electronics repair business Dada Electronics Australia as a hobby.

In private life he has been a symphony chorister, vocal arranger, and conductor.
