The Plante administration began on November 16, 2017, when Valérie Plante was sworn in as the mayor of Montreal, succeeding then-mayor Denis Coderre and his party. Originally a city councilor for the Sainte-Marie district, Plante was the leader of Projet Montréal when she won the 2017 Montreal municipal election.

As a mayor, Plante enacted various policies mosty related to public transit and traffic reduction including the purchase of new buses for the STM, the creation of the Escouade mobilité and the future construction of the Réseau express vélo. She ended the ban on pit bull-type dogs and canceled the controversial Montreal ePrix. Plante was criticized by landlords and suburbs for the tax increases featured in her 2018 budget. Her main campaign promise, the new Pink line for the Montreal Metro, did not receive support from the actual Quebec caquiste government led by François Legault. Furthermore, the Plante administration has shown dissent over various bills introduced by the Quebec government including cuts to immigration, further restrictions on cannabis use and the ban of religious symbols for public workers.
