How to make an oshiwambo traditional drink(omalovu giilya)
[edit]Omalovu giilya is an oshiwambotraditional drink made from sorghum flour and water. It is mostly drank on special occasions such as weddings, when the kings or traditional leaders have a certain function. The famous American singer Eve Jihan Jeffer who visited Namibia also drank the oshiwambo traditional drink at the Xwama Restaurant in Katutura.[1]
Here are a few steps on how to make the oshiwambo traditional drink(omalovu giilya), step 1- you take a pot of water, add sorghum flour and stir. Take a jar from the mixture and keep it. Step 2-Let the mixture boil and keep stirring until the form disappears. Step 3-When the foam disappears remove the pot from the fire, pour a bucket of water and let the mixture cools down for a few minutes or so. Add the mixture that you have set aside in step one. Step 4-Pour the mixture in a sack to drain the water from the mixture. Step 5- The water obtained is than put in a traditional brown calabash called Ondjupa for fermentation. The beverage will be ready after 6 hours.
