CLAUDE F. MARIOTTINI [1]

Claude F. Mariottini was Professor of Old Testament at Northern Baptist Seminary in Lombard, Illinois from 1988 until his retirement in 2017.  He was appointed Emeritus Professor of Old Testament at the time he retired. He served as Professor of Old Testament at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri from 1983–88.  

Mariottini was born in Brazil. He came to the USA in 1963. He is a graduate of California Baptist University, Riverside, California (B. A., 1968), Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California (M.Div., 1971), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky (Ph. D. 1983). He also has done additional graduate work at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California (1971-1973). His Ph.D. thesis, “The Problem of Social Oppression in the Eighth Century Prophets,” was supervised by Joseph A. Callaway and Norman K. Gottwald.

Mariottini pastored churches in California, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois. He also served as a missionary with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention with Brazilians and Portuguese who lived in San Francisco. He was the speaker for the Portuguese Baptist Hour, a weekly radio program in Portuguese.

He served as Vice-President of The National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion (NABPR) in 2000 and in 2001 served as their President.
