Nail industry has been growing like never before since the invention of modern nail polish.[1] Women around the world spend billions of dollars on nail services and that number has been only increasing throughout the years.[2] In 2004 Nailympia London was established.[3] Every year hundreds of professional nail technicians from around the world compete by showing off their skills in simple categories such as "Gel-nails" and dramatic categories such as "Fantasy".[4] In 2012, the United States witnessed a surging popularity of nail art.[5] Same year a short nail art documentary was released: NAILgasm. NAILgasm explored the growing trend of nail art; from women across the world to high fashion runways.[6] In 2014, Nailpolis: online Museum of Nail Art was founded for nail artists and hobbyists to share their designs. It is free to visit this museum. Only members of Nailpolis are allowed to share their art.[7] Women commonly use Youtube and Pinterest to learn how to do the newest and most interesting designs at home.[8][9]
