When you are old and grey poem by William butler yeast.

Poet Introduction:

William Butler Yeats is an Irish poet and one of the greatest English poets of the 20th century. "When you are old" is one of his famous poems. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923. He is one of the most famous love poets in the world.

Setting of the Poem:

From the first line, though the poem's present hums away in the background, both the addressee and reader are implored to imagine a future time when the addressee is old, gray, and tired. The poem is thus set in this old-age atmosphere, or more precisely, in the way the speaker imagines it. That is, the poem isn't about the future; it's a prediction of the future. In that sense, the setting is the speaker's mind.
