While I would not like to be defined solely by my computer experience, I believe it is useful to explain that history, as I find myself wanting to contribute to articles on computer culture.
I started learning how to program in 1976 at the age of 11. I was taught by my father, who had started writing applications on the Sol-20 computer. I supposedly used to an Olivetti computer before 1976. My father was also part of the phone phreak community. Perhaps the confluence of these two things helped me to become interested in computer communications. I participated in his use of BBS's in the late 70's, and began to use Usenet in the mid 80's. In the late 80's I believed connectionless oriented communications was the future of computing. By 1993, I succeeded in starting an Internet Service Providership in Baltimore, MD. The first ISP in that area.
Today my interests are in Information Security and Internet Governance. It occurs to me though that I have, trapped in my brain, experiences that might flesh out what is written about those earlier days in the computer world, so I will try to make a contribution where I can.
